All can and should play their part

Displaced people in Kurdistan are living in dire conditions and require all the assistance they can get. It is uncertain when additional camps might be ready and there is a high likelihood that they will not be completed before winter. There is a great need for funding to supply the displaced with the most basic of necessities such as water, food and sanitation.

The number of IDPs has placed a heavy burden on the government and places a huge humanitarian challenge before them, amidst the ongoing conflict against Isis. Furthermore, we have energy shortages, lack of employment and the KRG is yet to receive its share of the Iraqi national budget. A long-term solution must be found, and one that is sustainable and feasible.

Scrutinising and criticising KRG policies and the steps taken by political parties to improve the well-being of IDPs should be welcome; at the same time, there should be a renewed focus on those in need amidst conflict. In other words, all can and should play their part.
